We love a little bit of self-care and all this time at dwelling has actually given us an excuse to take care of ourselves in and out. Every week, we’ll be asking the celeb lot to share their Sunday self-care routines, as a result of caring for your self is extra vital than ever.
This week it is all about Hattie and Mallory Bourn, the sisters who’ve carved careers on social media due to their joint parenting weblog, timeless trend inspo and glimpses of on a regular basis household life on the ‘gram. It is the matching mini-me outfits for us!
Hattie is married to footballer Korey Smith they usually have three cute youngsters collectively, Otis, Marley and Etta. In the meantime, Mallory is married to England rugby star Joe Launchbury and are proud mother and father to Blythe and Hayden.
The duo based the nightwear model, Bounsisters, in 2019 and it has since constructed an enormous fanbase on-line. Their attractive pyjamas have been worn and cherished by many celebrities together with Rochelle Humes, Chloe Lewis, Zoe Sugg and Kimberley Walsh.
Hattie and Mallory chat completely to warmth about their self-care routines, favorite lip combos and one of the best recommendation they’ve ever been given…
Are you able to discuss us via your final self-care Sunday routine?
Hattie: I’ve obtained a routine with my self-care and I do not actually change what merchandise I exploit as a result of I fear I will get spots, whereas Mallory is much more experimental. I am talking for her as a result of I will know she’ll lie, however Mallory likes a make-up wipe and does not even take off her full mascara. I have a look at her like, ‘Have you ever simply taken your make-up off, since you nonetheless have mascara throughout your eye?!” Whereas I like the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (£44), I exploit it day-after-day, each night time, it is simply my favorite product.
Mallory: I am far more sporadic! Individuals continuously lecture me about make-up wipes, however they only actually work for me. I do typically use a cleanser however not day-after-day. Individuals ask me, ‘How do you not have spots? How is your pores and skin so good?’ However for my pores and skin, much less is extra. How I take my make-up off is rarely ok for Hattie!
If I used to be doing a correct self-care Sunday, I might positively use the Elemis Cleaning Balm as it is so stress-free.
Hattie: I’ve stolen yours…
Mallory: I’ve obtained one other one, so it is alright! Each chortle] I additionally love the self-heating [Space Masks (£16.50), I find those really relaxing because sometimes I feel like I’m constantly looking at my phone and doing something where you have to close your eyes and relax for ten minutes, is just so good. I suffer from migraines too, so they really help.
Hattie: I also love the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (£87) and if I have time, I’d put on a hair mask, too. I love Olaplex no.3 (£26). Since having Etta, I’ve really lost hair, so I’m trying to focus on my hair quite a bit.
Mallory: I love a hair mask and try to do one every couple of days. I love the Kérastase Genesis Masque Reconstituant Hair Mask (£32.30) which is really good for hair loss and breakage as well as smelling amazing.
What are your everyday make-up essentials?
Mallory: We’re both less is more when it comes to make-up, we like the natural look. For me, a product I’m really loving is the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (£37.80) and I discovered it last summer. I was a bridesmaid and the make-up artist used it on me and it smells so nice and made my make-up go on so nicely.
Hattie: Mallory introduced it to me, I love the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter (£34). It’s such a good base. It’s great for the summer when you’ve got a little bit of colour and you don’t want anything too heavy.
Mallory: And in the summer or on holiday, you can just wear it on its own. It does give a little bit of coverage and is a really nice product.
Hattie: I cannot leave the house without my lip liner and lipstick.
Mallory: I used to be a nothing on my lips type person, but you’ve definitely made me change. Hattie and our mum would be like, ‘Er, are you not going to put any lipstick on?’
Hattie: It just finishes the look. You just need a little bit of something on your lips. The products I’ve worn for years are the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Iconic Nude (£17) and MAC Matte Lipstick in Honey Love (£18.50), I wear them every single day.
Mallory: I use the same lip liner, but I love the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Bitch Perfect (£25).
What are your daily wellness habits?
Hattie: I’ve started with a PT around six weeks ago and for me, that massively changed how I feel every day. Having a new baby and you’re staying in the house and feeding and changing nappies, you can get into a bit of a rut. You can feel quite lonely, which sounds strange because you’re with a baby but it can be a lot. Etta comes with me to my PT sessions, but I still get up and out of the house and have something to do. It makes me feel so motivated for the rest of the day.
I’ve also recently started taking Symprove (£79) which is a gut health supplement. I was actually recommended it by Jessie J on Instagram. When I had tonsillitis, she messaged me like, ‘Oh my god, you need to take this, it will change your life and make you feel so much better. You’ll stop getting ill. I was like, “Well, I’m sorry. but if Jessie J recommends this to me, I’ve got to get it!”
Mallory: We need to send Jessie J some Bournsisters pyjamas! I also see a PT and she comes to my house. For me, exercise isn’t something that comes naturally and I do slightly dread it, but it does make me so good and energised after. I think it’s nice when you’re busy with life and work to dedicate some time for yourself and your body.
We love your sleepwear brand, BournSisters! How did it start?
Mallory: We started with blogging, to begin with, then after I had my daughter and Hattie was pregnant with her first baby Otis we really wanted to do something. We’d always been really obsessed with fashion and we always wanted our own business. We decided to start with pyjamas as we’ve always loved them, our mum always bought us matching pyjamas until we were really old! It was something we always looked forward to. When we had our own children we found it hard to find matching pyjamas that were unisex. We really wanted to make sets that both boys and girls can wear.
Hattie: And newborns as well, because there was time that we could get Otis and Blythe matching pyjamas when they were younger but then I had my second son Marley and we found it hard for him to match with Blythe as she’s tall for her age. It was really hard, there was nowhere that did pyjamas for boys and girls and mums, so that’s why we started.
What’s been the most surprising thing about starting a business?
Hattie: Literally everything! I think the thought of having your own business seems so glamourous in your head than it does in reality. In reality, Mallory and I have lots of arguments, we’re on FaceTime a lot with each other… it’s constant! When you think things are perfect and sorted there is always something that goes wrong.
Mallory: Something running late or the factory saying, ‘We can’t deliver this in time’ and we’re just like. ‘Oh god, can something please run smoothly?!’
Hattie: It’s just non-stop, I did realise it was going to be hard work but not as hard as it actually is.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Mallory: I think for me when you’re doing so many things at once, having a business, having kids, trying to get everything done and making sure everyone is happy. I think it’s about breaking things down and not being overwhelmed. Sometimes if you’re only looking at the bigger picture, it can make me feel quite anxious, whereas I like to focus on smaller chunks. That’s something I try and tell people if they’re stressed, worried or if they’re unsure how they will manage things. I’m definitely someone who suffers from anxiety, so that’s a big one for me.
Another one is to just give things a go. What’s the worst that can happen? I think so much in life, so many people have ideas or things they want to try, whether it’s a new business or a hobby. So often, people have big dreams that they never even try because they’re scared of what people might think or of failure. Sometimes overthinking things can ruin them when the worst thing that can happen is you fail and you learn from it and you try something new.
Hattie: Mine is that you can’t please everybody. There’s always going to be people who don’t agree with you or don’t like you and that’s just life. You can’t take everybody’s opinion to heart. I think social media can be quite overwhelming for lots of people, whether you’ve got 10 followers or 10,000. One comment can turn your day upside down. I can receive 100 nice messages, but the message that’s not nice, I’ll remember it and that’s the one I’ll want to reply to. It will really annoy me, but I haven’t remembered the 100 messages that are really lovely. I need to remind myself that I’m not here to try and please everyone. It’s my life and there are always going to be people that don’t like it, but you can’t let it affect your day.
Your jobs revolve around social media and your phones, do you have any boundaries in place to help you stay sane?
Mallory: Definitely, I closed my direct messages around six months ago, because like Hattie said, I was receiving so many lovely messages, but even the lovely messages were so time-consuming to respond to. Whilst it’s really nice to connect to your followers and stuff and you can have really lovely conversations, sometimes it’s just really overwhelming. I got to a point where I felt pressure to respond to people and owed them a response. It was really taking away from my day, my family – my husband would be like, ‘Mallory, why are you ignoring us to respond to somebody that you don’t know? It’s not that important, you don’t need to do it right now. Nothing is going to happen if you don’t reply.’
There were also some messages that were horrible and some that weren’t supposed to be horrible but felt like a dig and it would really upset me. I am quite a sensitive person and it would make me feel really insecure about every little thing I did on social media.
People can still comment on my pictures and I’ll happily respond there. I feel like people are way less likely to write something horrible in a comemnt, whereas in a direct message they have a real direct access to you. They can say whatever they want and there are no real reprocussions as noone else can see it. it’s just you and them. Since then, it’s made a real difference for me and I spend a lot less time on my phone.
Hattie: Mine is just in the evenings, once the kids go to bed around 7/7:30 me and Korey usually watch stuff together or just chat and if one of us picks up our phone, the other pauses the telly and we glare at each other! We’re like, ‘What are you doing?!’ I like to keep off my phone in the evenings or if I’m watching the boys play football or watching them swimming, I don’t want to be on my phone I really want to enjoy that moment with them.
Quickfire round:
What show are you currently watching?
Hattie: We just finished the new season of Top Boy and it was amazing.
Mallory: I’m watching The Gilded Age on Sky, which is made by the same people who made Downton Abbey and it’s set in New York.
How do you like your cuppa?
Mallory: I like my cup of tea with milk and one sugar. Hattie is very fussy about having a cup of tea.
Hattie: Mallory has one sugar but it’s the biggest heaped spoon, so I’d probably say she has two sugars. I like a very weak tea with soya milk and half a sugar.
Go-to loungewear brand?
Mallory: I would definitely say Bournsisters, we put out pyjamas on as soon as we get home. We’re developing some loungewear at the moment, so we’re really excited to bring that out. Stuff that you can wear out of the house too, though Hattie has been known to wear her pyjamas to the shops
Hattie: And I’m not ashamed of it either!
Favourite face mask?
Mallory: I love the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Sheet Mask (£18), but I also love the Garnier Moisture Bomb (£1.98).
Hattie: Agreed.
Go-to takeaway order?
Mallory: A lebanese takeaway or sushi.
Hattie: if I’m not being really healthy, which I am at the moment, so this is like my dream. Probably good old Indian with naan bread and poppadoms and everything.
Favourite candle?
Both: Neom!
Mallory: I love Neom, especially the Sleep Candle (£35).
Hattie: I knew you were going to say that, so that’s why I tried to say it really quickly.
